The birth of E ROSS (the Red One)
The pro-stock class, in which the E ROSS is pulling, is the pro-stock.
The construction firm must build and regularly sell the tractor in 150 unit, at least.
Zancaldi team choose the 1246 International Harvester for build his tractor!


The transformation of the tractor is based on two matters: the weight and the power, that in the stock production is directly related.
In this way the choose of some parts for building “light power” is very important.
The main rebuilding are in the engine, the chassis and the drive line.
At last, but not the least, the tires and the rims.
The engine: radical work in tuning-up the power for reach power and speed.
The modification are about:

Pistons and Sleeves: the goal is increase the displacement using lager pistons and llines
Another goal is decrease the compression-ratio and increase the combustion chamber: in this way it’s possibile to grown-up the intake air pressure.
In the top of the piston are made hole for avoid contact with the valves.
The camshaft, the pistons and the conrods must be balanced for the hig RPM (around 5500) reached.

Cylinderhead: the intake and exhaust valves from the factory are replaced with biggers for use more misture air-diesel-water.
Also the intake and exhaust manifold are rebuilded with the same goal.
The intake pipe is polished to increase the speed of the flush into the head.and also special basket is builded-up from copper plate.

Camshaft: the radical upgrade to the camshaft is for reach RPM tre time higer than stock engine performed in farm engine.
The camshaft is grinded and so it’s possible manage spring valves with higher torque to avoid “out or range”.

Fuel injection: plungers are replaced with bigger one and increased the speed of the injection to have more fuel in shorter time.
The original fuel pump is replaced with a bigger one, usually mounted on truck engine or expecially made for tractor pulling.
In the E ROSS the fuel pump is a “in line type” BOSCH P1 type, withh 13 mm plungers.
Also the injectors are replaced by special parts expecially made for the higher diesel to fill into the combustion chambers.

Water injection: its epmloy decrease the air temperature inlet in turbocharger, and follow the combustion chamber.
The other advantage is to transform the water in steam and increase the exahust gas weight.
This benefit can manage great turbochargers for improve boost pressure.
High pressure in water injection is made with a pump that send water to nozzles in the intake mainfold.
A proportional pressure valve according with the intlet pressure avoid the engine to sink for too much water.

Turboharger: the pressure of intake air can be higher six time in stock engine.
The right choose of turbocharger is not so easy to do, because need a lot of experiment in testing the right “hot part” for the exaust rotor and for “cold part”, the real compressor.
Sometimes the inlet air passing trough an aftercooler to be more cooled.

The chassis: the building of the chassis must be a project with light structure as possible and the best bilance.
All the standard parts not used in tractor pulling are pulled-out : the PTO driveline, the hitch, the cab and so on.
All these weight will be ballast for the tractor with the goal to bilance the tractor with performing set-up.

In front new front-end is builded for the steering and for the ballast.
The frame is builded realizing a rolling chassis tha surround bolted in the rearhousing and passing by the gearbox, the cluctch bell and the engine block finish in the front wheel.

The material used is the Crome Molibden for high resistance in torque and stronger structure.
The safety first and so the most important rules mandatory in the construction are:
- “Roll-cage”: for the saffety of the driver;
- “Stabilizer-bars”: to avoid the overturn;
- “Draw-bar”: to get safe hook of the sledge’s chain.
Driveline: its goal is transfer the power from the engine to the ground and must be very reliable.
The original clutch is replaced with centrifugal type with 3 or 4 disks (depending on the power to managed),
The original bearings are replaced with needles type to reduce the camping and save horsepower.
The rearend is tightned to reduce the width of the tractor an go straight.

Two gear for the pull, the reverse-gear and one for the transfer: that’s all into the gearbox of a pro-stock pulling tractor.
The brakes are in each rear wheels and are indipendent: when the treactor is pulling with the front wheels in the sky, the driver engagé the pedal brake to get direction.
Disks replace the original brakes and greater caliper are mounted on.
Also the pumps are upgraded with big one and with double stage: the first pressure un the pedals is very smooth, but the second getting more pressure and get strong brake.
To save weihgt and avoid loss of horsepower, aluminium rims and tyres expecially made for tractor pulling are mounted in the tractor.
